FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What can I expect if I decide to go for a massage appointment?
On your first visit, you will be asked to fill up a medical history form. Your massage therapist will assess you and create a personalized treatment plan. In order to fully understand your situation, the therapist will listen to your concerns and determine factors that may be contributing to your condition.
Are there any preparations that I need to make prior to my appointment?
It is advisable to refrain from eating at least 90 minutes before your appointment. The rationale behind this is that digestion draws blood away from the peripheral tissues and directs it to the digestive tract. Massage concentrates blood flow to the area being worked on; hence itdraws blood away from the digestive system. This leads to poor digestion and possible discomfort.
Do I need a doctors’ referral?
You don’t need a doctor’s referral if you wish to see a registered massage therapist. However, insurers and extended health care plans may require a referral so you can get covered. Check your policy to know if you need one in order to be reimbursed for therapy.
How often should I have massage therapy treatments?
Some believe that once is enough. This may be true for those who simply want to relax. However, massage therapy has been proven to be effective for certain conditions when it is used over a series of sessions and followed up with maintenance treatments. Discuss with your RMT so you can establish a program that will perfectly suit your needs.
